Flashback Photo Friday

Hey...it's Friday and it's time for Alicia's Friday Photo Flashback over at

This is the time when we take pre-digital photos and see how far we've come.

Well last week we were in Louisiana, circa 1979...and we're still in the bayou.
Let's go back a decade...to 1969...

where my grandmother...

looks pained and strained...

by holding a rather large baby...

which is me. (and I don't look happy either)

Even with the big baby...

her hat is still styling straight...

accessorizing with her red pocketbook...

close to her side.

Wish I could see her shoes....

I know Big Mama's shoes were "on point."

1969 was the year she learned to drive...

and my grandfather sold two horses and bought her a Chevy Caprice.

Its was the only car she drove.

When she passed in 1992...my dad and uncle drove it back to California...

and amazingly everything was still in working order since

she only put 30,000 miles on the car.

She drove it to church, the grocery, and Dollar General...

I bet she didn't get that purse at Dollar General.

Many 4th of July's were in Louisiana...

and it was fun because Louisiana always had REAL fireworks.

I've got a feeling my grandmother had to be a little bit fireworks in herself...

with so many children to keep in line (that's 12...whew!).  Funny to see grown 6 feet men hang

their head to speak to a silver blue headed five foot woman!

Have a great holiday! and Happy Canada day...a little late!

I LOVE her hat!! I have long admired women who wear hats well - they always seem to look silly on me!

And 12 kiddos! whew! She must've had some wonderful stories to tell!

That baby looks adorable! I love big babies, my son was 10lbs 1 oz when he was born! Your grandma sounds like a hoot! That car WOW! only 30,000 miles! BTW my mother still wears her hats too! I can't wear a hat!

update: my grandmother had 50 grandchildren so she called us all "baby" if you were a girl and "little man" if you were a boy. The only time I really got to spend with her was when she came out to California to stay with us. I have no pictures of those trips...but those were the most precious times...we had her all to ourselves. I'm guilty...it's from my dad's photo album...he LOVED his mom and has an entire album of her...

People just didn't get around as much then it seems. I know older people with cars having very few miles. Church, the grocery store and the pharmacy was about the only places they went. What great memories and 12 kids!! Wow!

She doesn't look pained and strained...she looks serious, as if she wants this to turn out right. You, on the other hand, don't look like you're having a ball, that is for sure. Your grandmother WAS a sharp dresser, that is clear. Love the car story...30,000 miles in almost 30 years...too cute.

You are adorable and I love how your grandma is dressed. I'll bet she was all well dressed, I know my grandma was.

My grandma ruled the roost, and kept her boys in line, even her youngest who was 6'4." In fact, even when they were married she still bossed them around, lol!
