Truth Scripts.

If your children are involved in Awana then you know that they have the Truth Scripts which is the adult verse memorization each year.
Usually the verses are familiar...but this year was bit different.
The first set was Psalm 1...which was relatively easy (especially if you learned it as a child like I did.)

But the second...
was Psalm 78: 1-8...

I kept saying..."Why these verses?  What's here for me?  It's too hard...it's too difficult...
well I did complete them and somewhere around 4 pm in a frantic rush to learn them...

it clicked...

and so here I am...

not making a mockery out of God's word...

but putting Psalm 78: 1-8 in my own vernacular.

Enjoy!

Now if this is just blasphemy to you...

stop

reading

here.

My version of Psalm 78 1- 8
(Lord please forgive me if folks get bothered...there is a purpose here.)

What God says:
Give ear o my people to your law, incline your ears to the words of my mouth,

What we do:
Lord...Did you say something? Are you trying to speak to me?

God's word...
I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old.

What we do:
I will open my mouth with whatever pops out...I'll spew gossip, malice and self seeking talk.

God's word...
Which we have heard and known and our fathers have told us.

What we think...
Which I've heard and know...but just because you tell it doesn't mean I'll do it.

God's word...
We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He hath done.

What we do...
We hide God's word because our kids are too busy, we show the generation to come ballet lessons, soccer, cub scouts, Brownies, and anything else we can cram in. Let the church do the job of bible stuff.

God's word...
For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children.

What we say...
I know we've got your word...but they'll find out in Sunday School...that's why I take them to church. And traditions?  I'm all for throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

God's word...
That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children.

What we say...
Look...it's not my fault my grandkids don't come to church...I took my child every Sunday...she should be taking her own kids...not me...I'm with the lunch bunch.

God's word...
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments.

What we think...
I'm hoping for a raise....a new house...hey I'm single so I'm hoping for a new man...I don't see God doing anything in my life.

God's word...
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

What we say and do...
I'm not stubborn!  I'm not rebellious...I just don't think I can do EVERYTHING the bible says...that's why I do what I want...regardless of the cost...but that's not being rebellious. And as for spirits...that's my wine and spirits every evening...it helps me unwind...and makes me steady.

If you made it this far...congratulations.
After reading those verses during a lengthy afternoon...

I realized these verses were perfect...
if we teach our children to set their hope in God consistently,
they will teach their children,
and so on, and so on, and so on.

Blessings.

No I did NOT get the washer. My husband is attempting to fix the problem....ugghhhh! I'm having to borrow my neighbors machine (there so sweet) for anything that needs to be washed in cold water. I have figured out if everyone showers I can get a load in with cold water...but that's just in the mornings.

Girl, I've been gone all day and haven't had a chance to read, but I HAD to respond to your last comment on my blog. LOL!!! Preach it girl. You've got it right about some choir members. I was one for years and I sat next to one of the nosiest women up there. She noticed each person who came in, who "didn't" come, and always wondered why people were coming to the altar. She would break me out of prayer to comment on someone coming up. DROVE ME UP A STINKIN' WALL!

I had to laugh at your observation. ha ha

Love ya!
