Taming the Tongue Tuesday!

Well folks it's Taming the Tongue Tuesday...

We've talked about gossip, slander...
but today we're tackling the chronic speech problem of bitterness.

Bitterness you say?

Yep....That part of the speech when you resent someone and you're just bitter at them and the whole world in general.

Well what is it?

It's is the way we talk about a person (you can't resist cutting them down when others speak highly of them; you join in and are critical whenever possible; you're just

hypercritical of the person
whenever you get the chance.

When this is the way you speak of someone...it's rooted in
resentment and bitterness.

Oh....I'm not bitter of....

(Who'd you think of?  Yep...that person.  That's who you're bitter towards.
You resent them, even if you're their "friend" or their family.

Don't let the devil control your tongue...you've got to keep him from controlling your heart.

How do you solve this?
Well the answer isn't with how you deal with them...it's how you deal with
YOU!

It's not enough just to keep quiet about the person when they come up...or even throw in the false compliment...

the answer is the acknowledgment that YOU resent them, YOU have bitterness and then...
YOU ask for forgiveness.

Why do we have bitterness or resentment...

Luke 6:45 says....
The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.  For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

It's that simple...you've got an evil heart...and you've been storing up evil in your heart.

O.k. so you say...no not me...I'm a Christian and I'm really not evil....

Oh yes you are...if you on a consistent basis you are resenting and are bitter to others.

You're letting the enemy keep you from a great life with Christ because you're too busy cutting other folks down.
It's not just about jealously (that's a problem too.) or that you're comparing your life to the Jones...(because bitterness slips out there too...

it's just plain evil.

Ask for forgiveness...stop and pray right now.

Stop storing up evil (by what you see, where you go, who you're with (did you know being negative is contagious), and what you do)...
then
good things will come out of your mouth... because you have good things stored in your heart.

Blessings.

Lorrie, you are cracking me up! Calling every evil! Girl!

You're right though. God definitely exposes the wickedness in our hearts. No doubt about it. I am amazed how wicked and selfish my heart can be.

I am so thankful for the blood for Jesus!

I pray God blesses you, brings healing to your knee and that your body will feel STRONG in the Name of Jesus!

Love,
Beth

I too am amazed at the wickedness my mind can come up with...it's just sad. You're right...Let's praise that we have the blood of Jesus to cover our sins. The questions is are we working out our salvation daily...and not just using His blood as an excuse...that's taking advantage of the ultimate price He paid.

I'm with A Stone Gatherer...those bitter thoughts...are what I have a hard time with. And, keeping my mouth shut when someone tries to intentionally stir me up! Pheww, that's hard.
