Crockpot steering...

Newlywed alert! Silly mishap ahead...Newlywed alert! Silly mishaps ahead.

Recently at breakfast with some friends I tried intensely to catch up on how every one's lives were going.
You know how it is? You haven't seen folks in a while and you desperately ask surface questions.
You ask questions that are probing enough...but not too probing. You don't want to ask anything that might steer the conversation down the wrong path.
Well I asked one young women..."How are things going?" And there we were talking about garage sales and the like...and she starts in on this story about a crock pot that she bought...but that she wishes she could take back.

"What was wrong with it?" I asked. (I'm secretly hoping she didn't notice me adjusting my bra.)

"well...when we put the water in it....it started to leak." Her steel blue eyes said with such innocence. "I was sad too because I could tell it was heating up and I thought it was working." She brushed a piece of blond wheat colored hair out of her face and back to her bun... "My husband told me I needed water in it to get it to work."

"And..." I said waiting for her to finish.

"When I took out the inside part of the crock...I started filling it put with water. But then the water started leaking all over the counter."

So I start thinking. Did she just say...she took out the inside of the crock? So I said, "Did you just say you took out the INSIDE of the crock...and THEN filled it with water?"

"Yes, I did." "I took out the inside and started pouring water in it. I had several cups in...but it started leaking through the whole in the bottom."

She then went on in perfect newlywed fashion to describe how her husband told her he'd fix the whole. How he took saran wrap and plugged it...and how she got water all over the floor."

I finally told her...and I was trying hard not to be judgmental...but I started laughing...really hard...
Through my tears I giggled "You don't put water in the heating element...you could have electrocuted yourself."
...I'm thinking her hubby steered her right into a ditch.
He was trying to help...but obviously doesn't know the workings of a crock pot.

"OOOhhhhhhhh" she said. "I just followed his instructions and I kept getting water all on the floor."

I couldn't stop laughing...I just kept thinking to myself...at her age...just being married...I would have done the SAME thing, and Bill would have steered me in the same direction.

I would have gotten some garage sale treasure home...been eager to use it...and not bother with getting instructions.

There in lies the problem....with her dinner mishap that night...with our lives many times.
We don't bother with reading the instructions.

We all know Proverbs 3:5 " Trust in the LORD with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding." but if you read down to verse 7...it says "Do not be wise in your own eyes;..."

We as believers do the same thing these newlyweds did. We get something going in our lives, we're so eager to charge forward that we don't bother with instructions from the Lord. We're wise in our own eyes.  When we get counsel...it's from folks who don't know any better than we do. (sorry I don't mean to dig on the husband, but obviously he hadn't used a crock pot either."

When we don't look to God for guidance and counsel or other God fearing Christians...then we end up making our lives a big mess.  Sometimes those messes have life long consequences.

The beginning of Proverbs 3 says "My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart." Let's remember that the next time we're about to make a decision "Is it God's will"?
If you're in doubt...get out His instructions...His Word will never steer you wrong.

Lol! That was hilarious! Thank you so much for the laugh. I have crazy newlywed stories that I might share one day. Until then.....I'll just keep adjusting my bra too because gravity is not my friend. Lol!

Gravity isn't mine either. I use to PRAY for a large chest in junior high...well God has answered my prayers...but somehow he added extra hips, legs, thighs...the whole enchilada...now I want an enchilada. LOL.. Blessings.

Funny story with a point that really hit home for me. And now I'm distracted with trying to figure out if I know the person in the story, and if so, who it was LOL. That's not a hint for you to tell, I'm just coming up with lots of good visuals!

LOL! That's so cute. It's funny to see little things in life don't involve me.
