christian friends, fun and fellowship

In the last few days I've been on two outings that I would say rival any fun the world could dream up.  No one had to hold my hair while I vomited into the gutter...I didn't have a hangover (unless you count chocolate and key lime) and I didn't have to worry about whatever I did or said would come back to haunt me. (except for desserts)

As Christians we can have fun too.  I know you know that...but do we REALLY know that.  Many people think it's o.k. running around looking somber, "pious" and sad, passing judgement and looking for imperfection,  but many statements our Lord said in the gospels were considered ironic, witty, and downright comedic.  Don't we realize that our God is the inventor of laughter and true fun?

Joyful fun comes with running around town window shopping with friends and your toenails painted bright orange.  Real fun comes from laughing at the sweet grim of a newborn or holding a friends' baby for the first time.  Real fun comes from forts in the living room and being the only girl allowed in.  True fun and fellowship comes from "limoxication...meaning too much key lime pie" or from saying your going to eat too much key lime pie.  Real fun is running into a good friend at Target and trying to close the store down picking out laundry detergent and laughing your head off.  True fun is being around people who are true to themselves and the Lord but aren't going to cramp your style.  I enjoyed some good ole' Christian fun Saturday, Sunday, Monday night and last night.  

My question to myself is I've been having "fun" but my problems in life really haven't gone away.  Bills are still due and they'll be more month than money just like usual, kids are still disrespectful more times than I'd like, I'm still doing copious amounts of laundry and I still haven't lost those 60 lbs.  I think I'm trying to really live in the moment.  God wants us to think about the things that are true, just, lovely and He wants us to hang around the same...that's what I've done the last few days.  I've been hanging around Christians who love to have fun and not compromise their faith in the process.  There isn't much dissension and gossiping going on...we slip now and then, but it's not the norm.  They aren't perfect.  I'm not perfect...but we're all just running towards Christ...and sometimes skipping along the way.

A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends. 
Proverbs 16:28

Finally, brother, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.  Philippians 4:8

Praise God that he picks us up when we fall and He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins.

How true JSmooth. When we run...we're bound to slip and fall. It's a blessing that he picks us up, dust us off, and we keep moving. (And it helps if you provide that wonderful chocolate cake. :)

Girl you got it!

We used to live in L.A. next to a family from Mexico.- great people, by the way. They used to tease us because hubby and I don't drink. Ever! They would invite us to parties and offer us beer and we'd just have juice or water and they were baffled. One day the husband asked us, "How can you enjoy a conversation with people you don't know? Don't you get nervous and feel inhibbited to talk and share things with strangers? I need this beer to loosen up so I can talk freely and be a better friend to my guests." WOW! At that point I realized how blessed I was! I was free. I was free to enjoy people for who they were. I enjoy operating "unimpaired" because I feel promptings from the spirit more easily. Good, clean, fun means so much more to me now. It is the very essence of pure character, creativity, and the way a diciple of Christ should seek entertainment.
