Last Sunday I was passing out art show invites when a woman squealed when I gave her the postcard.
"Lorrie! I didn't know you painted?" "How could you have hidden this from me for five years."
Well at first I thought she was a bit odd. But over and over again I got the same response. Folks didn't know I painted. I thought the response was exclusive to church...but my parent support group responded the same way. The ladies I see during carpooling said the same thing ole' thing. Was everybody clueless?
No! They weren't all clueless I just didn't give them ANY clues that I painted. As far as they knew I was just a mom to three boys. That made me turn my thoughts to the verses in Matthew where Jesus says "You are the light of the world...Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
I hadn't walked around with canvases or drawing books. No one ever saw me carrying a picture of my paintings or even talking about paintings for that matter. I thought it was a life passion...but apparently I was hiding it and not really putting it out there.
Let's not do that with our Christianity. Don't be someone who never speaks about the Lord...is never seen with a bible...never brings up prayer in their conversation. You don't want to be caught with folks saying...
"Wow!Hey.... I didn't know you were a Christian?"

Amen girl! You are so right. When we take upon ourselves the name of Christ we act as witnesses to Him... and not silent witnesses! So glad someone else feels the same way.
Okay, I would LOVE to talk adoption anytime! It is the most reward BEST choice our family made EVER. I love my two youngest girls as if they were born from by own body... which as you can see is entirely impossible. And girl... I have a new respect for black women! I had no idea life revolved around hair. Black women are AMAZING! I'm inexperienced but learning every day. Lately we just got my 3 year olds hair braided and oh what a great change in our daily schedule!
Adoption is wonderful. We have been so blessed to be led to our girls. Truly blessed. We also are blessed to have 5 families in our neighborhood who adopted transracially. So, we have a great support for each other and our girls.
Regarding Autism. My husbands brother is Autistic and I know what you're going through. I've known my brother in law since early high school and we love him so much. Blessings to you.

I love this post. Thank you for it. It reminds me to be an example of what Jesus is & to show this to others. My Pastor preaches on this. Reminds us that we are a continuous "work in progress". Thank God for mercy & grace.
