Taming the tongue Tuesday!

Sarcasm
the rhetorical device of using a characterization of something
or someone in order to express contempt.
[1] It is closely connected with irony, in that
the two are often combined in the same statement.

It comes from the ancient Greek σαρκάζω (sarkazo)
meaning 'to tear flesh'
but the ancient Greek word for the rhetorical concept
of taunting was instead χλευασμός (chleyasmόs).

Sarcasm.

Has no place in Christians communicating vocabulary.

Alas, I'm quite skilled at it.
Voted most "whatever it was" 8th grade and 12th grade...
because of my MOUTH!

I use to glory in those end of the year awards...

but thinking now...

getting an award for skillfully using my mouth...
in sarcasm

isn't an award.

It's in indictment.

On my mouth...and in reality, my thoughts.

Matthew
12:34

You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good?
For out of the overflow of the heart
the mouth speaks!

Let's conduct a little experiment...

Lord...let my heart focus on you...

Let my mind focus on you...

Let me be mindful of what I'm thinking...

and let's see what comes out of my mouth!

Now I'm committing to today...so let's see what happens.

I'll report back tonight!

well so far so good...ok it's only 10:50 and I haven't talked to anyone since my kids left for school...so it's a little easy not to be sarcastic when I'm not talking.

Oh my..just reading that it means "to tear flesh" in greek makes me think twice about wanting to be sarcastic again!

I can totally relate to this because I used to have a "smart mouth." I can still be sarcastic, but not like before I was saved.

I do like to joke around and laugh, but I'm also careful of who can be offended easily.

I hear ya on this one. I am AWFUL at it...but if flows so freely that I often pass it off as "it is just who I am"...

Thanks for this today...will work on my wording. But...like you...with no one home, it is easy to do unTIL I got get them :)

Oh girl. I am the youngest with a sister 9 years older than me and a brother 11 years older. The only defense I had was my mouth. I was trained to have a sharp tongue.

It has definitely taken years to soften my tongue.

Well I'm still working on it. But it's still pretty easy with just my kids at home. I haven't talked with my sister (we are sarcasm experts) and of course...the ultimate test...hubby hubby...we both are good at sarcasm and use it to throw barb at others as a way to unwind at the end of the day...

Hi there, I found you on Beth's blog. I love what you're doing over here! This is a good word for sure. I love the idea that it's not an award, it's an indictment. Great stuff! Nice to meet you (I'm following you now).
