from grumpy to giddy within two slices...

Well our exciting weekend of doing things desert style...turned into...

breakfast Saturday (hotel continental breakfast style)
note to self: don't use pancake mix that calls for eggs, oil, etc... and NOT to use my steel pan)

letting the boys run around the neighborhood
note to self: I got a lot of exercise in...

playing Monopoly (with all 5 of us...usually one of the Bill's are elsewhere)
note to self: I stink at Monopoly

and having dinner Saturday night at California pizza kitchen.

Now if you know my family you'll think...
California pizza kitchen.

You guys LOVE pizza. That's not a treat.

But we've never been.
I brought my camera...sat it down next to me...and forgot to take pictures (oh well)
and my family started complaining...

"Mom can I blow out the candle on the table?"
"Why are there so many "couples" in here, where are the kids?"
"I want the $21. ravioli..."
"He's touching me..."

So I went into a quick slump until my hubby and I started to
IGNORE the boys.

Well it worked.
They worked out their problems...
I ordered my 6th grader the $6.00 raviolis
and they had edaname for my youngest (he wants that with everything)...

Well we loved it! Candles, ambiance and all!
(ok...a generous gift certificate didn't hurt either.)

Of course food makes even the grumpiest kid a little giddy...
and the children's hot fudge sundae with real whip cream really perked us up.

On our way out...who did we spot?
The family who gave my husband the gift certificate 6 months ago at the end of the school term...
My hubby has taught all their kids and we've been den parents in cub scouts together...a really neat family.

They asked us how we liked the place...
and my husband leaned over and said...

"We love this place...we'll be back."

I hate to say...I said under my breath...
"alone...we'll be back alone."

then my pickest eater...looked up and said...
"Mommy...thank you for bringing us here...I love you."

The other family said..."Awwwww that's so cute."

Then I spoke up...and said...
"Yeah...we'll all be back...I think we have a new favorite place."

Oh, I so miss California Pizza Kitchen. You'll have to go back and eat some Ginger Dumplings for me! Glad you have fun and glad your family is just like every other family!

Aw...this takes me back to all the times we went on vacation, and the kids would be fighting and pulling each others hair out the whole time. Then years later they would say, "Remember that vacation when we went to soandso and did suchandsuch? That was the best time ever! Lol...

Things were rocky at the start...but by the end of the night we were all having a blast. (even our grumpy one was having fun.) We really need to do this more often.

What a nice treat for all of you!! I had to chuckle a little bit at first because I can picture how it was with the kids. But, overall, you guys had a good time and everyone was happy!!

I haven't been there in sooooo long!
